The Neon Abyss 2 weapon affix system explained: fixed and dynamic affixes, Weapon Reforge, the six stats, Artefact Extraction and weapon Vaporizing.
Neon Abyss 2 Weapon Affix System: Rarities, Reforge
The weapon affix system is the layer that makes Neon Abyss 2's weapons behave differently from the original game. Every weapon carries fixed affixes plus randomly generated dynamic affixes, and the whole thing was then overhauled by Weapon Reforge in March 2026. It began as a beta on 5 February 2026 and has been refined since — and the 1.0 press release leads with it, telling players to "affix your weapons, Agents!"
"Weapons now feature a brand-new affix system. Each weapon has fixed affixes and randomly generated dynamic affixes." — Cosmocover newsroom

- Two affix layers: fixed affixes on every weapon, plus randomly generated dynamic affixes
- Beta start: 5 February 2026; full overhaul with Weapon Reforge on 5 March 2026
- Six stats: Damage Bonus, Attack Speed, Projectile Range, Projectile Size, Critical Chance, Luck
- Permanent progression: Artefact Extraction destroys artifacts for permanent stat bonuses
- Weapon level: weapons level up, and can be Vaporized for Soul Shards
How does the Neon Abyss 2 weapon affix system work?
Two layers, and the distinction between them is the whole design.
Fixed affixes are inherent to a weapon. They are part of what that weapon is, they are consistent, and they are what makes a weapon recognisable across runs.
Dynamic affixes are randomly generated. This is where the variance lives, and it is why two copies of the same weapon are not the same upgrade. It also means a weapon you disliked early can roll differently later — worth remembering before you vaporize something on a bad roll.
The 1.0 launch is where this system gets its spotlight. The press release leads with "Affix your weapons, Agents!" and the console launch announcement confirms that new weapon rarities and affixes are part of the Early Access content that the console release inherits. So the affix layer is not a post-launch feature to wait for — it is a headline of what is already in the game.
Our items and synergies page covers the non-weapon side of the same economy, because weapons and artifacts compete for the same six stats.
What are the six weapon stats?
The stat list was split into six categories in January 2026, and these are the axes every affix modifies:
- Damage Bonus
- Attack Speed
- Projectile Range
- Projectile Size
- Critical Chance
- Luck
Projectile Range, Projectile Size and Attack Speed are the three that change how a build feels rather than how hard it hits. A run built around big, slow projectiles covering a screen is a different game from one built around a stream of fast small ones, and those are three of the six axes you can push.
Luck is the one stat here whose effect is not spelled out in the patch notes. We are not going to invent a multiplier for it — what it does in practice is one of the more interesting things to test in the Training Room, where you can compare weapons against fixed dummy targets.
What does Weapon Reforge and Artefact Extraction do?
Weapon Reforge was Major Update #4, shipped on 5 March 2026, and overhauled the weapon system — see the official update post. It is the update that turned the February beta, which SteamDB's patch archive records as patch 21791898, into the system you play today.
Artefact Extraction is the permanent progression layer, and it is the one that changes a save rather than a run. It destroys artifacts to add permanent bonuses to those same six stats. The trade-off is explicit: you give up an item you could be using now for a bonus that lasts.
Weapons also level up during a run, and can be Vaporized for Soul Shards. The Philosopher's Stone relic modifies this — it changes extraction to grant a random Artifact instead, turning a pure stat transaction into a loot one.
The relic Empty Cup offers the opposite trade: weapons stop levelling, but you keep the upgrade areas. That is a run-shape decision disguised as a stat decision.
Patch notes recorded a fix for "an issue where gold affix attributes could reset to zero when the Artisan Faith Temple is downgraded." If you play around the Temple of Artisanism, that is worth knowing about — and worth verifying is still fixed in the build you are on.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Neon Abyss 2 weapon affix system? A system giving every weapon fixed affixes plus randomly generated dynamic affixes, so two copies of the same weapon can perform differently.
When did weapon affixes arrive in Neon Abyss 2? The system began as a beta on 5 February 2026 and was overhauled by the Weapon Reforge major update on 5 March 2026.
What does Artefact Extraction do? It destroys artifacts and converts them into permanent bonuses across the six stats: Damage Bonus, Attack Speed, Projectile Range, Projectile Size, Critical Chance and Luck.
How do I get rid of a weapon I do not want? Vaporize it for Soul Shards. The Philosopher's Stone relic alters this behaviour so that extraction grants a random Artifact instead.
