Neon Abyss 2 items explained: five categories, every officially published effect for Curios, Artifacts, Relics, Hexjars and Oddities, and stacking.
Neon Abyss 2 Items and Synergies: Effects and Combos
Neon Abyss 2 has over 600 new items plus returning classics, and there is no limit to how many you can wield. The catch is that no complete 600-item database exists publicly — the only primary source for item effects is the game's own patch notes. So this page is built honestly: five named categories, every effect Veewo has actually published, and a clear note about what is missing and why.
Item effects on this page come from the Glimmer Heist update notes, the most detailed official item source published so far. The 600+ figure is the Creative Director's, given in a Game Rant interview.

- Total items: over 600 new, plus fan-favourite classics
- Carry limit: none — no limit to how many items you can wield
- Five categories: Curios, Artifacts, Relics, Hexjars, Oddities
- Set items exist: confirmed by the Royal Ring effect
- Co-op: band together to multiply each of your unique synergies
What are the item categories in Neon Abyss 2?
Five, and they are named in the official patch notes:
| Category | What it does |
|---|---|
| Curios | Consumable-feeling utility items that interact with room drops and currencies |
| Artifacts | Stat and mechanic modifiers, some of them set-piece aware |
| Relics | Run-shaping items that change how progression itself works |
| Hexjars | Jars you fill with a resource — weapon EXP, Faith, size |
| Oddities | Unusual one-off effects, from summoning geese to lifting cubes |
The categories are not cosmetic labels. A Relic like Empty Cup changes the shape of a whole run by stopping weapon level-ups while keeping upgrade areas, which is a fundamentally different decision from stacking another Artifact. And the Royal Ring artifact reduces the number of items required to complete a set by 2, which is direct official evidence that set items exist in Neon Abyss 2 — something the marketing copy never mentions.
What do the published Curios and Artifacts do?
Curios, verbatim from the patch notes:
- Cosmic Pouch — consumes Crystals to collect nearby drops, and generates an Artifact after collecting enough
- Kane's Cube — converts Relics into Artifacts
- Glass Die — duplicates and transforms a random room item
- Express Box — packs and releases all room items
Artifacts, also verbatim:
- Royal Ring — reduces the number of required set items by 2
- Purity Sigil — damage increases with Faith; at full Faith, gain +1 projectile
- Ghost Proxy — +20% move speed, and 50% of speed bonuses also affect attack speed
- Squid Brooch — −10% damage under 100 coins, +30% damage over 300
- Beep Watch — standing still for 1 second ramps up attack speed
- Blackbrew — spend 2 Crystals for a bomb
- Firecracker — +2 Bombs, and thrown bombs may drop Chests
Read those together and the design intent is clear: several of them convert one resource into another. Cosmic Pouch trades Crystals for drops, Kane's Cube trades Relics for Artifacts, Blackbrew trades Crystals for a bomb. A build is partly a decision about which conversions you have enabled.
It actively penalises you below 100 coins and rewards you above 300. If you are not deliberately managing your coin total, this artifact is working against you.
What do Relics, Hexjars and Oddities do?
Relics change how a run progresses: Philosopher's Stone alters extraction so it grants a random Artifact instead, Empty Cup stops weapons levelling while keeping upgrade areas, and Sim Wheel rounds out the set.
Hexjars are resource containers: Artisan Jar fills weapon EXP, Candle Jar fills Faith, and Mushroom/Capsule Jar changes your character's size.
Oddities are the wildcard category: Goose summons attacking geese when you are hurt, Glass Jar stores and releases items, Goblin Chest either duplicates or confiscates your items, plus Orange Cat and the Big and Small Wonder Cube, which you can lift and throw.
The Oddities are where the tone of the game comes through. A mechanic where a chest might take your items from you, or where getting hurt summons geese, is a deliberate contrast to the solemn mythology of the boss ladder — and it is also, mechanically, some of the highest-variance power in the game.
How do item synergies stack in Neon Abyss 2?
The developer's stated design goal is the honest headline: "We really wanted to make the choices of combinations limitless for players." Combined with no carry limit, the result is that a late run is defined by interaction density rather than by one overpowered item.
Co-op multiplies this rather than diluting it. The store page frames the co-op pitch as "band together to multiply each of your unique synergies" — four players with four different item sets create far more combinations than one player optimising a single set. Our co-op guide covers how that plays in practice, and the weapon affix page covers the separate affix layer that sits on top of the same six stats.
There is no public 600-item database. Everything above is assembled from official patch notes, and Veewo adds items in every major update. We would rather show you 30 items that are verifiably real than 600 that are mostly plausible — check the Steam news hub for items added since this page was written.
